Once Upon A Time

The four greatest presidents of our last, very fateful century were the two cousins, Theodore and Franklin Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, and Harry Truman. In all instances a combination of foreign and domestic events combined to challenge their leadership and they and the country prevailed. During their tenure in the White House the policies they instituted to dealt with those events subtly or materially changed the direction of the country and the outlook of the people in a positive way. We only have to look backward with the accumulated wisdom of hindsight to see how far the current President is from the ideal.

I used to give Dubya the benefit of the doubt and say he is the worst president since Warren Harding, but with each passing week, Harding looks better all the time.

Hi Jamie,

What about Kennedy with the Cuban Missle Crisis?

TR was my favorite President I think of all time.

Rob,

Unfortunately Kennedy wasn't in office long enough to achieve the ranking of "Great". Historians still put him in the "Near Great" area because of global outreach and the Cuban Missile Crisis. It's simply a case of no one knows how his administration would have fared in the matters of Civil Rights and Viet Nam.

I still think of him as "My President" because he was my "coming of age" holder of the office even though I couldn't vote for him because of only being 16 in 1960.

Vanilla Birdies. Love that song and the movie! My son plays a role playing game on line and if I happen to see him take out another player, I'll start singing "Goodbye we've all come to say Goodbye".

Don't pay attention to this. I'm checking it out for someone who had trouble commenting.

I am amazed at how this President has succeeded in making the leader of the free world an insignificant position. I recognize that he still has a lot of authority but when I look at him, I am reminded of the times when I was a child, I would sneak in to my parents bedroom and try on my dad's shoes. No matter what I did, I was never able to come close to filling them.

He's more than a little like the screaming brat in the supermarket. I just wish his mother would either make him behave or take him elsewhere.

It's pretty bad when the rest of the world seems to be watching in horror while he has another temper tantrum.

I see the contributers to this thread all have their snarling little group mentality stroking eachother's contempt for GWB. You sound like a snobbish group of brats at a rich private school. Your remarks are mere name-calling and represent the lowest common denominator in a meek attempt at real debate. I'll leave you alone to stew in your self indulgent love for eachother.
