Top Ten and Counting

This is a retread from way back before there were many regular readers. So who would you add to the list or what historical figure has an impact on your life.

Atlantic Monthly Magazine has put together a compilation of lists by historians to come up with the top 100 Americans who have influenced (some good, some not so much so). It is well worth viewing and joining in on the conversation.

They Made America

Who would you rank in the top ten?

The Top Ten from Atlantic Monthly are:

1. Abraham Lincoln

He saved the Union, freed the slaves, and presided over America’s second founding.

2. George Washington

He made the United States possible—not only by defeating a king, but by declining to become one himself.

3 Thomas Jefferson

The author of the five most important words in American history: “All men are created equal.”

4 Franklin Delano Roosevelt

He said, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself,” and then he proved it.

5
Alexander Hamilton

Soldier, banker, and political scientist, he set in motion an agrarian nation’s transformation into an industrial power.

6 Benjamin Franklin

The Founder-of-all-trades— scientist, printer, writer, diplomat, inventor, and more; like his country, he contained multitudes.

7 John Marshall

The defining chief justice, he established the Supreme Court as the equal of the other two federal branches.

8 Martin Luther King, Jr.

His dream of racial equality is still elusive, but no one did more to make it real.

9 Thomas Edison

It wasn’t just the light bulb; the Wizard of Menlo Park was the most prolific inventor in American history.

10 Woodrow Wilson

He made the world safe for U.S. interventionism, if not for democracy.

Can't see the castle just what looks like a tuscan style wall. Still White behind the "Durward Discussion.

I just tried to take out the "a general ramble" line from under "Durward Discussion" so that the title would just be centered between the tartan. It didn't take. Do you have the whole heading elsewhere? If so, please take out the line. Thanks.

I haven't messed with the header yet ...... I saw that too.

I'm still pretty excited about figuring out , how this program works .... Light bulb time and all that ... Watch this next one.

OK all I remember now ... All the copy is in the graphic portion of the Header Banner. What do you want under Durward Discussion ?

Image Shack is slow today .... One more test and I'll go to that cream from yesterday, then I'll fix that header.

I LIKE > COMMENTARIES ON THE WORLD AND LIFE

NEW IMAGE UP . THAT'S THE PIC OF HUNTLY PASTED ONTO THE SAME BACKGROUND AT 19 % OPACITY ... THAT'S SO COOL ......

I'LL PUT UP THE CREAM COLOR FROM YESTERDAY ....

I like this with the cream. It's clean, simple. The castle was wonderful, but it sort of defeated the purpose of people actually reading the material.

Okay, you can leave general ramble, just give it the cream background. :-)

Glad you are having fun. I'm enjoying the experience.

OOPS .... I took out ramble .....

Durward Discussion said...

Oh a gypsy like me must have ramble.
:-)

It really looks great. Colorful without being overwhelming. Nice banner feature at the top. You've done really great work.

Put back the ramble. :-)

While I was poking around I found the Gordon Family crest .... I'll gather all this stuff up off my desk top and email it to you ... Otherwise I'll just toss it ... Might be something in there you can use later.

I'l stick ramble back in.

You can just toss them. I've got all the logos and banners for a newsletter I write.

What is your surname? I'll send you a present if you don't mind letting me know.

I would add Rosa Parks to the list. Her quiet courage and dignity were an inspiration.

OMG - what is the conversation all about?! Are you having your blog redesigned? *giggling* I just did that too, so am curious.

Thx for your visit back to my site and comment. I am honored that you like my blog. My goal is to get more involved in book reviews, publishing issues, and my memoir, so hopefully, I won't lose your interest. I will keep the humor *wink*

I'm fascinated with what you have to say as well and will be adding you to my reader. Until then, I did a little research to get some details (for myself, that is). Abe Lincoln is one of my favs, but I would add Rosa Parks who wouldn't give up her seat to a white person on a school bus...This event lead to an amazing change in the laws of segregation - she really changed the world. Then, Constantine - changed the religion of his state to Christianity in the 300s A.D.

That's all. CU soon.
