In 2006 Mimi Lennox, mistress of Bloggingham Castle started a little project. For one day, bloggers who followed her would speak with one voice: Dona Nobis Pacem. They would post globes with that simple message. What started as a hope nine years ago has now spread to more than 200 countries and it can take days to visit even a percentage of all the people seeking just one goal in our time: GRANT US PEACE
Above is this year's globe and below just a couple of others I've done including a major favorite: Bear 339 & The Bear A Tones who were created both for a song of peace and a hope for all the endangered animals on the planet.
The Bearatones return because around the world today, bloggers from more than 50 countries including all 50 States of the U.S. will speak with one voice: Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant Us Peace). The only hope for mankind and this world is the willingness to make life better for all of us. That can only happen if we approach each other with open generous hands and minds.

As many are aware every Friday is 5 on Friday. A Chance to share music with each other started by Travis of Trav's Thoughts. This year Friday falls on the date set for the annual DONA NOBIS PACEM the Blog Blast for Peace started several years ago by Mimi Lenox also lovingly known as Queen Mimi of Bloggingham Castle.
Because of her actions, thousands of people in 55 countries now devote one day each year to these three simple words: GRANT US PEACE (Dona Nobis Pacem) and dedicate themselves to encouraging peaceful actions within and among the countries of this blue globe we all share.

An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane, such as long life or recovery from illness or injury. The crane in Japan is one of the mystical or holy creatures (others include the dragon and the tortoise), and is said to live for a thousand years. In Asia, it is commonly said that folding 1000 paper origami cranes makes a person's wish come true. This makes them popular gifts for special friends and family.
Yesterday was the United Nations International Day of Peace. On November 4 we will once more celebrate Dona Nobis Pacem, the Blogblast for peace when thousands of bloggers worldwide fly their peace globes in a common effort to set differences aside as as human beings simply declare "Give Us Peace". November 11, once called Armistice Day and now Veterans day, marks the end of The War to End War in 1918. It is now 92 years later ...
Last year, this was my fanciful Globe for Blogblast. This time with another year of war and thousands of more deaths, I will be more serious in my approach. The lovely lady who started this several years ago also shows many of the beautiful globes on her Facebook page. It is only 42 more days. Over 40 years ago Lorriane Schneider (1925 - 1972), a woman and printmaker with lttle real artistic background created a poster because she feared her son might be drafted. To this day, this little drawing with its four branches to represent her four children and simple slogan is recognized as one of the icons of the Viet Nam peace movement. It is incorporated as part of my peace globe above.
It was not until TV producer Barbara Avedon gathered together 15 middle-class women on February 8, 1967 to discuss ways to protest the war did Schneider’s image find its true and enduring purpose. The women did not want to align themselves with the beards and sandals of youth nor did they want to be seen as wild-eyed radical route, yet they wanted to let the U.S. Congress know how enraged they were in the face of mounting body bags.
The group decided to send 1,000 “Mother’s Day cards” to Washington as letters of protest. The card said, "For my Mother’s Day gift this year I don’t want candy or flowers. I want an end to killing. We who have given life must be dedicated to preserving it. Please talk peace.” This act grew into the “Another Mother for Peace,” group which eventually became the vanguard of a surging protest movement.
Schneider was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and died in 1972 at the age of 47, but her anti-war poster and plea for social justice creation lives on. So I will now add my voice to all of the mothers and now grandmothers who have seen this image.
