Van Johnson - RIP

Today brought the news of the death of Van Johnson. He was almost always the second lead, the comic relief, and the foil for the leading man, but always one really great dancer in a career that stretched more than 50 years.

I remember in 1982 we were in the parking garage adjacent to the Hotel St. Francis in San Francisco when Mom saw him. It was sooo funny, she swooned! I'll never forget that.

It took a lot to make mom do stuff like that. She usually held her cards close to her chest, figuratively speaking...

He was always such a versatile actor. Often the sidekick, but every bit as talented as the lead. I enjoyed him in Brigadoon. Thanks for that clip.

But my favorite role of his was as Holly in Battleground.
