The Heart of the Sea In One Blow

On of the joys in living on the west coast of North America is the annual migration of the Gray Whales from Alaska to the Sea of Cortez. Even from a great distance you can spot them because of the double spout that forms the distinctive Heart Shaped Blow. These huge gentle creatures make the trip to have their calves in Mexico. In many locations along the way, you can take boats out to view the whales from a distance always looking for the valentine blow.

In the Sea of Cortez during the season when the calves have grown to a safe size, you can get close enough to swim with them or pet them from the open boats. Once you have fallen in love, it is a blow to the heart whenever you hear of them being harmed in any way. Should you ever have the opportunity, try to make an echo of the trip taken by John Steinbeck and Doc Ricketts on the Sea of Cortez to see the hearts of the sea for yourself.

Wow. This is great!
While the second picture was downloading, before the eye showed up, I wondered why there was a giant pickle coming up out of the ocean. :)
But really, these are great. I would love to take a whale-watching trip. It would be awesome.

Great -- a whale's blow hole is certainly a unique take on BLOW.
Excellent!

Great video. Seeing whales up close and in person is one of the most awe-inspiring events. I really like your take on the 'blow' theme!

Well, I'm blown away. What a perfect Manic Monday "blow" post. Very well done.

I love your Scottish Highland bull, so cute... and I notice he keeps getting "blown". lol

Imma, Glad you like my Highland bull (maybe female since they have horns as well). I met his real life counterpart in Scotland a couple of years ago .. a gentle, wonderful animal named Hamish.

Someday, even though it is about the only reason I can think of to go to the west coast, I would like to see the whales.

Good Post.

Wonderful!!! I've watched them from shore but have never been too close. I have an old post on my site about our swim with wild dolphins that you might appreciate.
I hope people can keep these magnificent creatures from being hunted...
(I got a big kick out of your Purim posting - wonderful comedienne.)

I go to the spit a lot, and see them going by at times. But I've never been real close to one.

My feeling is to leave them alone in peace.
