An Embarassment of Riches

The American public is finally waking up to what a disaster President Bush has been for the nation. The latest poll says 58% of the people wish his presidency was over now. Unfortunately, barring Congress getting off their collective rear ends and impeaching a President who really deserves it, we will have to tolerate him and his bull headed cronies for another 600+ days. So say a few prayers that he doesn't manage to take the whole country down with him.

Fortunately there is a crowd waiting in the wings, the least of which will replace him to the applause of a grateful public. Bite my tongue, but even a couple of the Republicans look good by comparison. Public disgust with this Republican president will probably mean none of them will see the inside of the White House except on a tour, so I can be kind.

On the Democratic side we have what amounts to too much of a good thing. There is literally not one of the possibilities who would make a bad President -- some with more potential than others, but none of them bad. Biden, Clinton, Dodd, Edwards, Gore, Kucinich, Obama, Richardson, Sharpton, and Vilsack are to one degree or another dipping their toes into primary pool. This is a bench that would make the New York Yankees jealous. Let us hope they will be team players for a while yet. If there is one thing we don't need for about a year is sniping in the ranks. Do the fund raising, gather the supporters, and start up the blogs, but be kind to each other for a while.

While not putting all my eggs in one basket (made in Ohio by Dennis) , I am eliminating the weak and non-deserving. Obamania may claim me...but not yet. I love your baseball bench analogy, and I realize these are going to unhappy benchwarmers, as all substitutes should be, for without their eyes on the prize, they'll be boring and eliminated. Last time , I all but quit paying attention as Dean had the deal done, right? Oh...well...maybe I'll pay closer attention this time around.

Democracy, where the people gets the government it deserves. My place has never been a democracy, has your's?

My daughter used to live right next to the glass museum in Tacoma, in the Amber Mill lofts.

Some of it was interesting, but I didn't like it there. Especially at night, I like my peace too much. There are too many idiots in Tacoma.

Welcome all. Alan, I'm glad we seem to have finally defeated the gremlins.

Dexter, I refuse to pick one candidate this far out. There are ones that I favor, but if you shut everyone else down too fast thanks to influence and money you could end up with George Bush.

BBC,

I live away from downtown, but there are still too many people to suit me. Given my druthers, it would be a trailer in the woods or some other place where the animals outnumbered the neighbors. Having said that the Museums here are a nice places to visit. You just don't want to live there.

Dogs Eye

That is a wonderful column. Thank you. I really like the way they extended it from a love of innocent animals to an awareness of the humans among us who are in need.

On the horse racing front, all of the tracks are switching to the new polytracks that are much easier on the horses. California's tracks must switch by law within the coming year.
