5 On Friday - A Different Kind of Cowboy

Our buddy Travis of Trav's Thoughts has created a wonderful meme called "5 on Friday". The rules are simple:
1. Grab the banner, make your post title Five on Friday, and be sure to link back here.

2. Go to Playlist.com to make your play list of five songs. You may choose a particular theme to share with us, or post random tunes if that's your vibe for the day. You can simply post the play list, or you can add a little summary about what you are sharing.

2a. Don't feel restricted by the tracks listed on Playlist.com. You're welcome to use any type of media to share your Sets.

3. Be sure to sign Mr Linky so everyone can visit your Set.

4. No tags, but feel free to invite your friends to play along if they need a post topic on a Friday.

Lyle Lovett has become one of my favorite performers. His unique voice, song writing ability, and sensitivity mixed with humor are almost irresistable.
Courtesy of Wikipedia: Lyle Pearce Lovett (born November 1, 1957)[1] is an American singer-songwriter and actor. Active since 1980, he has recorded thirteen albums and released 21 singles to date, including his highest entry, the #10 chart hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, "Cowboy Man". Lovett has won four Grammy Awards, including Best Male Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Album. It's Not Big It's Large was released in 2007, where it debuted and peaked at #2 on the Top Country Albums chart. A new studio album, Natural Forces, was released on October 20, 2009 by [Lost Highway Records].

Lyle Lovett!! I LOVE Lyle Lovett!! I'm not a country fan by any means, but there are a few exceptions, and he's one of them. I saw him in concert several times when I lived in Toronto. I also love his Big Band sound. If I Had a Boat is my favorite of his songs, and I've Been to Memphis is my favorite from your set today.

Happy Weekend.

Lyle Lovett is one of those singers that I've never been able to group as a country singer even though that's exactly what he is. Some people defy categorization because they're just so versatile and I believe that he fits into that description. I'm with Julia, "I've Been to Memphis" is my favorite of today's set.

I went with a summer grouping as it was so darned hot and humid yesterday that it seemed appropriate! Thank goodness for air-conditioning at work!

I'm a recent convert. You sort of have to pay attention to the lyrics to get the depth of the songs from the purely silly such as "Choke That Chicken" and "Keep It In Your Pantry" to the absolute beauty of some of the deeper songs such as "Don't You Think I Feel It Too" or "Empty Blue Shoes". His looks and voice are so unusual that you have to set you brain on bypass and really listen.

That's Right, You're Not From Texas (but Texas wants you, anyway)

Lyle is a musical conundrum and one who has always held my interest precisely because I can't figure him out. Deep....that pretty much describes him.

I will revisit him. Thank you, Jamie.

Because I picked this "Five on Friday", I went to You Tube to listen to what they have, and I've decided I need to have more Lyle Lovett on the IPOD. There is a whole lot of "there" there.

I'm not that familiar with Lyle Lovett's work. It sounds like some old style country mixed with a little bit of blues.
