Who Do You Love?

The Tardis is bringing a new Dr. Who (David Tennant) back for the second season. The big event is Friday, September 29 at 8:00 p.m. on the Science Fiction Channel. Those of us addicted to the good doctor know what a seminal occasion this is as we have been deprived since the Christmas show.

The new Who production is the best one yet, and in my case i've been watching now for about 40 years, several incarnations, and a transition from black and white to color. They have kept all the fun and old characters while adding modern techniques and good story lines.

For all sorts of trivia, the doctors since 1963 to the present, and lots of goodies about the new season, check out The Science Fiction Channel.

Jamie.... I have taped all the Doctors from William Hartnell up to eposide 8 of Sidney McCoy.

They use too run Doctor Who without commercials and I have been wanting to burn them to DVD. My pc is not fast enough to convert and burn without dropping frames. Hopefully in the near future I'll be able to upgrade to a better computer and finally have the time to learn how too transfer them before the tapes deteriorate.

It would be nice if the local PBS where I'm at now would show them. Even at pledge time the PBS station where I taped them didn't interupt for pledges.
What a concept, huh.

Anon,

I don't know where you live. The first year of the new series I was getting it on the Canadian channel as that is on my Comcast system. BBC America is supposed to get it. Sorry you don't get Science Fiction, so I hope they do pick it up on PBS at some point.

Jamie,

The PBS station where I use to live ran it on Sunday nights at 11:00pm interruption free. They would run the whole story in a time slot of an hour and a half.

The Keys to Time were run in six installments which was all 1 1\2 episodes. When they had pledge night they would run the last pledge segment for double the amount of time for the normal break, then run Doctor Who.

Since I had too get up early the next morning for work, pledge weeks were very tiring going into Monday morning.

Still I stayed up to tape them knowing full well how tired I was going to be monday.

Someone I currently work with likes the Doctor so he tapes it off the Sci Fi Channel and brings it in so I can watch it at home. He has all the first season so I've seen it. The price for the Season Set is not cheap as all BBC Doctor Who DVD's are around $25 to $30 Dollars. A little too rich for me at the moment.

Maybe in the future I'll be able too not only afford Cable, but also Broadband and get rid of Dial-up.

God Bless.

Alanboss...
I'm with you...I adored Tom Baker.
I used to watch the Doctor in the early 70s with a boyfriend. For Xmas one year, I knitted him a long scarf just like Dr. Who's (different colors)...he loved it...

Alan,

As much as I love Hitchhikers, do yourself a favor and check out the new Dr. Who. The first season was great and the actress playing Rose is just right. The second season has a new doctor so I hope it will be as good. They have kept the all the old enemies but really updated the production values.

Anon - If you can swing it, the first season is or will be for sale soon.

Renee,

Tom Baker was everybody's favorite doctor which made it such a surprise when Christopher Eccleston
became the new Dr. Who. He was wonderful. I really hope Tennant does as well.

Love all Doctors... though my heart remains on the floor with K-9 reading Baker Peter Rabbit.

Also... let's not forget Peter Cushing in the theatrical films and Paul McGann in the 1996 TV movie (he still plays The Doctor in the "audio adventures") which also had a Master as good as any in Eric Roberts and a typically fine John Debney score.

They have promised to bring K-9 back this season. Last season the Daleks were there among other evil types, but everyone is waiting on the sweet and loyal K-9

jamie,

When my brother was first diagnosed with MS and Doctor Who was his one island of peace, I found a talking K-9 toy for him -- very old fashioned with a tiny yellow vinyl disc for his dialogue.

It's still on his desk today.

Yes, I too found Tom Baker to be my favorite Doctor. Would you like a jelly baby? And of course everyone's best pet would be K-9, what a dog!

Who would be afraid to walk down the street with him protecting you as you go out on a nightly stroll.

Jamie....... The first season is out and it's somewhere in the $100 range I believe. Like I said above, the BBC DVD's of Doctor Who per DVD is in my opinion rather expensive. I think the most I've paid for a TV Series was $40 something dollars and that was for Kung Fu.

God Bless all.
