Wishes Are Children - Manic Monday

You made my life so easy this week. Stephen Sondheim wrote about what comes after Happily Ever After when you dare to go Into The Woods. Be careful what you wish for because wishes can come true.

Careful the things you say
Children will listen
Careful the things you do
Children will see and learn
Children may not obey, but children will listen
Children will look to you for which way to turn
To learn what to be
Careful before you say "Listen to me"
Children will listen

Careful the wish you make
Wishes are children
Careful the path they take
Wishes come true, not free
Careful the spell you cast
Not just on children
Sometimes the spell may last
Past what you can see
And turn against you
Careful the tale you tell
That is the spell
Children will listen

That was beautiful. I know and agree with you that wishes do come true so beware of what you wish.
Thanks for letting me know. I'll be fixing it later as blogger is acting up funny.
Thanks for visiting

Children listen too well. I remember driving my son around one day when he was two or three, and I dropped the MF bomb on someone who cut me off.

It took me a couple days to erase that word from my son's vocabulary. Cheers Jamie!!

Stephen Sondheim is a marvelous musician and lyricist! Into the woods is one of his best! Great take on WISH. The song reminds me of South Pacific's "You've Got to Be Carefully Taught:"

You've got to be taught
To hate and fear,
You've got to be taught
From year to year,
It's got to be drummed
In your dear little ear
You've got to be carefully taught.

You've got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly made,
And people whose skin is a diff'rent shade,
You've got to be carefully taught.

You've got to be taught before it's too late,
Before you are six or seven or eight,
To hate all the people your relatives hate,
You've got to be carefully taught!

I crewed for Into the Woods in college. I don't remember anything about it except for Snow White doing a costume change right next to me and flashing her boobies at me. :)

I go to the woods all the time, but my wishes don't come true. But I make big wishes, like for world peace.

Love this song. Would not have thought of it for "wish" but it's perfect!

Thank you, by the way, for featuring Callie in your sidebar!

What a beautiful production! I must confess I'm not too well versed in theater, only having seen Hair way back in the sixties when it was the naughty thing to do!
The message was wonderful, as was the one left by "the teach."
Truly a breath of fresh air...
~~~Blessings~~~
I think Into the Woods was one of the first plays I saw...I was so enthralled with the revolving stage.
Excellent choice! I wish (ha) that I had seen this show live. I've seen bits of it on PBS.
